About the Event

In one Lower East Side tenement, forty layers of wallpaper were found clinging to the walls - each piece applied by a new immigrant family. Using puppetry, masks and live action, Layer the Walls tells the incredible stories held within each layer. Layer the Walls, Part II: Mid-Century (1930-1970) *A Chinese father swims across the Hudson River to save his family *A Teen Holocaust survivor finds refuge in NYC *Puerto Rican cousins become involved with the Young Lords' fight for healthcare justice The performance runs approximately 70 minutes. Families are invited to a talk back with members of the cast and creative team following the performance, as well as an interactive shadow puppetry demonstration. Interested in more stories of immigration on stage? Join us for Layer the Walls Part I on Sunday, 2/23 at Abrons Arts Center. Each show stands alone, and no prior knowledge is required.
